Australia is becoming an important destination for the Indian traveller and is one of the fastest growing. According to Tourism Australia, they recorded a total of 3,60,000 visitors for the 12 month period upto January 2019. This is a 17% growth over the prior 12 month period, which is higher than the average growth of India outbound travel. Based on the CAPA study of 2016-17, 20% of the visitors to Australia were Leisure travellers (which is amongst the lowest when compared to other leading country visitors), the remaining comprising persons visiting Family and Relatives, Business and Employment travellers and Students. The Indians also spent an average of $2,670 (around ₹1.80 lacs) which is lower than the average visitor to Australia.
