Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The main Island of Mauritius is located about 2,000 kilometres off the southeast coast of the African continent. The Republic of Mauritius also includes the islands of Rodrigues, Agalega and St. Brandon. Spread over an area of around 2,000 sq km, it currently has a population of around 1.5 million people. The capital and largest city Port Louis is located on the main island of Mauritius.

The official language of the Assembly is English but French is also used extensively in this island nation.

Indian Nationals traveling to Mauritius for tourist or business purposes will need to apply for a visa online or through an agent and then will be granted a 60 day visa on arrival provided that they have a valid return ticket, that they are eligible to re-enter their country of origin and have adequate funds to meet the cost of their stay.

  1. Grand Bay – It is a seaside village and a large tourist beach in Riviere du Rempart district of Mauritius and is popular for its amazing quality of emerald waters.
  2. Chamarel Falls & Seven Coloured Earths –The seven colored earth is a natural phenomenon and the colors evolved through conversion of basaltic lava to clay minerals. It is said that if you mix the colours together, they will separate on their own. Chamarel Falls at a height of 272 feet also is a sight to behold.

  8. Ile aux Aigrettes – It is a coral island 800 m off the south-east coast of Mauritius and has been declared a nature conservation site and is being preserved by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. It has an area of 27 hectares with limestone partially overlain by sand and soil deposits and is the last refuge of dry, coastal forest remaining on Mauritius.
  9. Black River Gorges National Park - The only national park situated in south-western part of Mauritius it is spread over 6754 hectares, remains of the island’s indigenous tropical forests. It is famous for its waterfalls, vistas and hiking trails.

Casela World of Adventure Park - Spread over an area of 250 hectares of rugged terrain, lush forest and breath-taking gorges in the mountain area, it is a haven for indigenous and exotic species like Java deer, wild boars, hares, macaque monkeys, mongoose and fruit bats, as well as to ebony, cassias, tamarind and pink pepper plants.

Mauritius, one of the most sought-after destinations in the world, has finally lifted a number of COVID-19 restrictions effective July 01, 2022 to boost tourism in the country. The South African nation had put a ban on public gatherings due to the pandemic. But now, the country has scrapped these restrictions along with removing a public mask mandate as well. This island nation is noted for its pristine beaches, secluded islands and luxury abodes. Citizens will also no longer be required to wear face masks – except in hospitals, clinics and other health centers, pharmacies, public transport, the port, the airport, dental cabinets, institutions for disabled citizens and homes for senior citizens. Bars and nightclubs and other entertainment locations have reopened with full capacity and restrictions on public gatherings have also been lifted. The government has also allowed picnics at beaches which were restricted until now.

Passengers travelling to Mauritius will no longer need to take a PCR test on arrival at the airport. Fully vaccinated international travellers can enter the island without restrictions. Non-vaccinated travellers will be subject to a test on arrival (day 0). They must self-isolate for 7 days in accommodation of their choice. An antigen test is required on day 7.

Mauritius Travel Insurance is still required for all foreign visitors traveling to Mauritius. Although no specific amount of coverage is required by the country, the policy must provide medical coverage for Covid-19. Medical insurance covering repatriation or treatment for Covid-19 in Mauritius and Additional Hotel cost (Quarantine cost) if the traveller or accompanying traveller’s quarantine is extended or they test positive to Covid must be part of the coverage of Travel Insurance.
