What is the best traveller’s health insurance?
Travel Insurance (or Traveller’s Health Insurance) is the insurance coverage required by a traveller who is traveling out of India on a leisure a business trip or meeting family and friends abroad. Travel insurance is currently not a mandatory requirement for all travellers to have when they travel abroad except when visiting the European Schengen countries (it is mandatory to have an insurance cover to obtain a visa). Hence more than 75% of Indian travellers do not opt for travel insurance although it is very important to have a policy to protect the traveller from any unforeseen medical or non medical emergency that can arise.
One could have an unfortunate accident or sickness and with the cost of treatment exorbitantly high in most countries, the traveller could end up bearing this expenses from their pocket. The average cost of hospitalisation could be anywhere between $15,000 -$20,000 ( ₹10.5 - ₹14 lacs). Also there are non medical emergencies like Loss of Passport, Loss/Delay of Baggage, Flight Delays, Personal Liability that are covered under travel insurance policies.
