Does Indian travel insurance provide good coverage for lost luggage?

Yes, almost all international travel insurance policies in India do have a coverage for loss luggage/baggage as part of their travel policies. The coverages range from $250 to $1000 for 2 bags with a per bag limit in some cases.

This does provide some financial relief to the insured traveler towards the cost of their items lost in their bag. The documentation to make a claim with the insurer is also relatively simple and includes the Property Irregularity Report (PIR) from the airline/common carrier, a list of items lost and the claim form. Hence travel insurance does provide support/cover at the time of a baggage/luggage loss.

Some Assistance companies (who are representatives of the insurance companies abroad) also try and assist the insured in working with the airline/common carrier to trace the lost luggage/baggage.
